What Exactly Does a Doula Do?
Why Do I Need a Doula?
The Doulas at Carolina Birth and Wellness provide continuous support for families in Chapel Hill, Raleigh, Durham, and surrounding areas during pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period. Our main focus is supporting you while you find your strength to be the best advocate for your own health and wellness. We do this by providing emotional, physical, and educational support through evidence based systems to individuals and families across North Carolina. Whether you are looking for a birth doula, antepartum doula, postpartum doula, or sibling doula, you can except the same level of care and compassionate throughout your entire contract with us, and beyond!
Instilling Strength in Our Clients Through Evidence Based Support
Our number one goal is for our clients to learn their options because we believe with options comes strength. Pregnancy, birth and parenthood are full of so many unknowns, our nonjudgemental evidence based support provides our clients the ability to learn their options, and make active choices for their care. When the unknowns do occur, we hope our clients are able to rely on our support to advocate for the best decision as related to their care.
Emotional Support for Pregnant Folks and Families in Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill
Emotional support is such an important part of care, and often the most overlooked. Our doulas are there every step of the way with you to provide continuous emotional support through pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period. We have found that our emotional support is most used by our clients prenatally as they prepare for birth, but also this support is invaluable in the birth room. For our postpartum clients, our emotional support can be seen as we support you with the during the early days (and late nights!) of raising a newborn in the form of text, email, and phone support, as well as sitting next to you on the couch no matter the time of day.
Physical Support for Doula Clients in Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill
Physical support is our actual presence during your pregnancy, birth and postpartum period. For our birth clients, our physical support can be seen in our in two prenatal appointments as well as our continuous birth support. At the two prenatal appointments, we will learn about your preferences for physical support as well as teach you and your partner some of our favorite comfort measures that you can practice to learn which you love and which you aren’t crazy about. During labor and delivery of your baby, our physical support is shown through our presence with you as long as you need us, whenever you need us. Because of our 24/7 on call schedule, we are available to physically support you whenever and wherever. Our postpartum clients find that our physical support isn’t as important for their physical comfort (i.e. we usually don’t do hip squeezes during a postpartum shift), but rather their emotional comfort. By having someone physically in your home to support you with a newborn can feel really great, and we love to be able to provide that comfort to our clients.
Educational Support for Individuals and Families in Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill
We feel that our educational support is so vital to our clients throughout the entire process of learning you are pregnant to celebrating your child’s first birthday. It seems that with each stage being a parent, the next step is just around the corner, thus giving everyone involved the constant need to learn more useful information. Our goal with all our clients is that we provide enough educational support that they feel comfortable in whatever option they choose, as well as several alternatives if the first is not the suited for their individual situation. Our educational support can be seen for our birth clients as we develop birth plan A, as well as birth plan Z to ensure that each client feels confident with all the possibly options for birth. Our postpartum doula clients find the educational support comes into play with each new developmental leap their child makes, and the changes and challenges that accompany those stages.
