Breastfeeding can be a challenging journey for some individuals, and our goal with our new breastfeeding support team consisting of Megan and Claudia, two International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) is to provide continued support and care for as long as you need. Because of this, if after your initial consultation you still have lingering questions or concerns, we offer as many follow up consultations as needed.
Topics Covered in Follow Up Consultation
During the first consultation, we will have conducted a full health history of the breastfeeding parent and baby, so the follow-up consultation we will be really assessing what suggestions worked for you from the first appointment, and what did not. We will spend time reevaluating the initial plan made and help find new tools to help you succeed in your breastfeeding journey.
Changes As Your Baby Grows
As babies grow, their breastfeeding challenges may also change. So for example, in the first appointment we discuss latch and engorgement issues, subsequent appointments can cover how to effectively drain each breast after a nursing and/or pumping session. Babies grow both physically and developmentally in the first few weeks and months, their needs can also change drastically. During all appointments we will meet you where you are in your breastfeeding journey, wherever that is!
Referrals for Breastfeeding Support
Similar to how their needs relating to breastfeeding change, we may be able to offer additional referrals to meet your baby where they are to help with breastfeeding. Some of the most common referrals include dentists for tongue and lip tie revisions and massage and bodywork for you and your baby.
Payment for Additional Breastfeeding Consultations
Like all of our breastfeeding support, we are able to provide a Superbill for you to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. The coding we will provide in subsequently lactation appointments will be reflected in the Superbill to allow for continued insurance reimbursement. Note: we do recommend that you speak with your insurance company to ensure your individual plan covers multiple lactation appointments.
